AcceleDent

Wouldn’t it be nice if the time spent wearing braces or Invisalign could be significantly reduced? The good news is that state-of-the-art orthodontic offices like Gorton and Schmohl Orthodontics now have a safe way to make treatment go faster.

AcceleDent Optima is a technology that lessens the time a patient will need to undergo orthodontics by helping the teeth move into alignment.

It is worn like a sports mouthguard over the braces or Invisalign for 20 minutes a day.

Micro-pulses are sent into the teeth and underlying bone to help them straighten with a motion similar to that of an electric toothbrush but more gentle.

The process has been around since 2009 and has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Dr. Jasmine Gorton and Dr. Bill Schmohl were the first doctors in Marin County to introduce AcceleDent to their patients in early 2014, first with AcceleDent Aura and now with AcceleDent Optima which can be worn in the shower! It’s completely waterproof!

Not only does the AcceleDent Optima system help align the teeth and improve the bite more quickly, but patients report that it makes orthodontics more comfortable. They often describe it as a soothing massage for your teeth!

Here are more interesting facts about the AcceleDent Optima system:

  • AcceleDent can only be obtained through a doctor’s prescription.
  • The patient will need to use the device for the full 20 minutes to get the full effect. Using it for longer than 20 minutes won’t speed up the process or confer any extra benefits; however, some patients use it more often for comfort.
  • If the session needs to be interrupted for some reason, the device will remember how many minutes are left as long as the interruption doesn’t last for more than five minutes.
  • AcceleDent Optima needs to be recharged every three days. The patient shouldn’t wear it while it’s being recharged. It uses a lithium ion battery that’s made for use in medical devices.
  • The mouthpiece should be washed in lukewarm water with either mild dish detergent or even toothpaste after every use. It can then be air dried. However, it shouldn’t be put in a dishwasher because this will damage the device and cause the warranty to be voided.
  • The device shouldn’t be worn while the patient sleeps.
  • AcceleDent Optima can be worn when taking a shower.

Propel

Propel Orthodontics has developed an innovative device and technique which dramatically accelerates the rate at which teeth are moved in orthodontic treatment. The device, which resembles a thick pen, comes sterile and ready to use and is also disposable afterward. It is constructed using proper surgical steel and is able to be controlled and manipulated with both precision and ease.

The procedure associated with this device is a simple one that can usually be performed by the doctor in five minutes. It is based on a university research backed process called alveocentesis, which stimulates faster bone remodeling.

Using the device, tiny holes (microperforations) are made in the target area, which decreases the bone density and allows the teeth to move faster. The size and depth of the perforations in the areas are often compared to an ear piercing. Because of this, the predicted length of orthodontic treatment is reduced by half. Once orthodontics is complete, normal bone density returns. Clinical trials have shown that there are no permanent side effects to the teeth or gums.

Drs Gorton and Schmohl were the first Marin County Orthodontists to adopt the PROPEL procedure in 2012.

Orthopulse

OrthoPulse is an innovative concept that was designed to quicken treatment time by facilitating tooth movement. Many patients who have used the OrthoPulse have spent less time in braces and clear aligners.

Scientific Discovery

OrthoPulse - Marin OrthoResearch discovered that natural low intensity (nIR) light can be used to help the body in many ways:

  • Cell re-generation
  • Reduction in pain
  • Healing
  • Reducing inflammation

It combines the power of cell metabolism and chemical energy that is derived from nIR light. This helps bone tissue and tooth roots adjust quicker to movement during orthodontic treatments.

A Technological Marvel

ortho pulseThe OrthoPulse has a comfortable silicone mouthpiece with attached smart technology. This includes:

  • Self timing treatments
  • LED Array
  • Wireless re-charging
  • Advanced Bluetooth 4.0 for tracking and syncing
  • Light Status indicator

The OrthoPulse has been cleared by the FDA and is safe to use.

Safety

The OrthoPulse concept is based around smart science and has been clinically tested. The basic principle of using energy from the sun has been around for many years within the medical industry. OrthoPulse has taken this information and turned it into a useful device that can help millions of people with their orthodontic care.

Ease of Use

Many people contributed to the design and research of the OrthoPulse. One of their main objectives was to make it easy to use. They knew it had to be comfortable to wear and that is why they used a soft medical grade silicone mouthpiece that utilized a one-size fits all format. It also needed to fit in with the patient’s lifestyle. The OrthoPulse can be worn while watching television, searching the web, or reading. Making it part of a daily routine can lead to a faster finish. It only takes one 10-minute self-treatment once a day to see the difference.

Gorton & Schmohl Orthodontics is proud to carry the OrthoPulse as part of their orthodontic care. They know how important it is for patients to get the smile they want as quickly as possible.

The doctors and staff are ready to answer any questions about the services they provide. They can create a plan that is specifically centered around the individual and help each person attain the smile they have always wanted.

A beautiful smile changes the way a person sees themselves and how others perceive them.
