There are different reasons why you might need a retainer. The most common reason is to help your teeth stay set in their new positions going through braces or Invisalign treatment. It’s important to wear your retainer because your teeth tend to shift back to their pre-treatment position. The retainer helps to minimize this shifting, which occurs naturally over time. This shifting happens even to people who have never had orthodontic work.
After your orthodontics is complete, we make you a retainer and ask you to wear it every night while you are sleeping. You will have a choice for you lower teeth as to what kind of retainer you’d like to have; a removable clear (Invisalign) retainer or a bonded (glued) permanent retainer wire behind your teeth. A retainer keeps your teeth in line and you won’t even notice it while you’re sleeping!
We have invisible clear retainers (Invisalign Retainer) that we make for kids that acts the same as the traditional plastic and wire retainer. It holds the expanded palate in place while allowing the new teeth to grow in.
