Earlier this year, Dr. Gorton was invited to Invisalign Headquarters to share with other progressive orthodontists before and after records for the youngest of the practice’s Invisalign patients. These “Phase 1” patients, including her son, were between the ages of 7 and 10 years old at the time of their Invisalign treatment. In a significant departure from traditional orthodontic approaches, these children used removable clear aligners for expansion and straightening of the teeth instead of the conventional glued-in metal expanders or bulky acrylic expanders. Since there is no hardware treatment is more comfortable there are no dietary restrictions and nothing to work around for brushing and flossing. This pre-teen group has been surprisingly successful with their aligner wear for early expansion, with most of them finishing in 6 months or less.
